Be Prepared: Changes in Customs Transport

DVA Replaces NCTS

Starting October 29, 2024, the current NCTS system will be replaced by the new Customs Transport Application (DVA). This change will have a significant impact on businesses involved in customs transport, and it’s crucial that your company is prepared to avoid disruptions. The transition will happen with a “big bang,” so delays in processing and handling shipments are expected during this period.

To help your business stay on track, here are the key changes coming with DVA:

What’s Changing with DVA (Replacing NCTS):
More Detailed Declarations: The declaration process will become more detailed, with the goal of enhancing security measures.
Mandatory 6-Digit HS Code: The inclusion of a 6-digit Harmonized System (HS) Code will now be required for every declaration.
Addition of Incident Office: In cases of seal breaches, accidents, or theft, you must now include the nearest customs office as the “office of incident.”
Updated Transport Document (TAD): The traditional TAD has been replaced with a new model compliant with current regulations.
No Printed Accompanying Document Required: There’s no need to print the accompanying document anymore. Customs will only require the MRN (Master Reference Number) to be presented upon request.

This transition will not only affect customs procedures but may also lead to delays in processing shipments during the transition period. Therefore, it’s essential that your company prepares well in advance, and that your customers are informed of the potential impact on order processing and data submission.

Stay connected and compliant to ensure a smooth transition and avoid penalties.
