origin documentation

When exporting goods to certain countries, documents such as Certificates of Origin, EUR.1 certificates, ATR certificates and commercial invoices may need to be officially issued or legalized. The Chamber of Commerce validates these documents, while NLD Customs manages the application and submission through a direct digital connection, ensuring efficient processing and alignment with destination requirements.

Export documentation requirements

Origin documents
within the export process

For many export shipments, preparing the customs declaration is only one part of the process. The destination country may also require origin documents, such as a Certificate of Origin, an ATR certificate, an EUR.1 certificate, or a legalized commercial invoice before the goods can be accepted for import. These documents are formally validated by the Chamber of Commerce and may be required to confirm the origin of the goods or the authenticity of the commercial invoice.

If this documentation is incomplete, inconsistent or not available on time, shipments may be delayed or refused by the authorities at destination. This makes origin documentation a critical part of the overall export process.

Consistency across documentation

Matching documents with destination requirements

Origin documents must correspond with the commercial invoice, shipment details and the requirements of the destination country. The Chamber of Commerce is responsible for validation, while NLD Customs ensures that documents are correctly prepared, reviewed and submitted.

This includes verifying invoices, submitting documents and coordinating additional steps where required. In specific cases, documents such as T2L or T2LF may also be needed to confirm the customs status of goods during transport.
